Purpose. This procedure sets the safety requirements for technicians travelling to and working at client sites.

1.Scope

This procedure applies to any staff member who travels to a client site or works in a communications room, ceiling space, plant room or on a ladder. It supports the Work Health and Safety Policy.

2.Before leaving

The technician must check the site documentation for site hazards and induction requirements, confirm the visit in the ticket, take the correct tools and personal protective equipment, and let the service desk know the expected return time. Regional trips over two hours of driving must be planned with rest breaks and must not follow an on-call night.

3.On site

Sign in with the client and follow the site induction. Work in communications rooms must keep exits clear and cables managed. Ladder work must use a rated ladder with a second person present and must never exceed the ladder's safe working height. Ceiling space work requires a risk assessment, a torch, gloves, eye protection and a second person.

  • Sign in and follow the client induction
  • Second person for ladders and ceiling spaces
  • Rated ladder, three points of contact
  • No work on live electrical equipment
  • Manual handling aids for equipment over 15 kilograms

4.Electrical safety

Technicians connect equipment to existing outlets only. Any new outlet, circuit or fixed wiring must be done by a licensed electrician. Equipment with damaged leads or plugs must be tagged out and not used.

5.Incidents

Any injury, near miss or hazard at a client site must be reported to the team lead the same day and recorded in the Security and Safety Incident Register with the client informed.
